Hmmmm...wonder what Mykie is doing right now.

(Looks and sees a whole mess of blogs that I missed.)

Now, you see, this is what happens when you focus so much time on writing an entertaining story. You miss so many oppertunities for a good riff. So, lets see just what we can utterly evicerate, shall we?

History with Channel Awesome

Before I savagely tear into To Boldly Flee (Figured it's 10 years, might as well tear it apart.) I want to spend time talking about the site and what it means to me.

Back in 2008, I was busy just getting used to the net and the like. Getting used to the freedom of my own laptop and the writing abilities I could use with it, and youtube for me was mainly just for watching abridged videos. Around this time, I was mainly getting my reviews from sites like Jabootu, Cold usion, and the agony booth. One day, while I was looking at the forums, someone sent a link to a video by the Nostalgia critic. Namely, the Space Jam review, it was the first time I had seen him and I had laughed so very hard at his gags. Thus, began my long love of the reviewers and their ilk.

See, I am a little odd when it comes to reviews and critics. While I will look at Rotten Tomatoes or meta critic to get a good feeling of how the public or critics feel about a movie, I tend to not agree with any of them. Oh sure, we sometimes link up when it comes to a movie I like, but nine times out of ten the movies they hate I tend to love. Also, sometimes I get bored with their ilk and just end up sleeping through it. I don't know why it was, maybe I just prefer a gag over "This scene sucks because the camera is in the wrong angle" or  "There is modern music in this knight movie, it sucks". So, to see a guy sitting in a tie and a hat riffing on a bad movie and telling jokes about why the movie sucks, was such a relief.

It was never about the screaming or the rage for me, hell I don't think my fave gags o his are the angry ones. Mine are ones like the good Son, Zuul Motherfucker!, the gag in Steel where he makes fun of Steel just laying there, and more. I just liked watching someone throw jokes and gags at the screen and see what happens (Shame he seems to be losing that and thinks he wants to be a real reviewer)

Imagine my surprise and happiness when I found out that he was getting a website and was putting videos on there. From there, I began to find more guys like Critic: Spoony, Linkara, Phelous, and so many more. Hell, about a few months before I became a brony I watched the Nostalgia Chick's review of the MLP: Movie(Ironically I disagree with most of what she says now) and more. Each review I saw was a blast to watch and hilarious.

Then, To Boldly Flee happened, and the death of Jew Wario and something just...felt off. I don't know what it was, maybe it was that Doug just lost what it was that made him good or that the movie made it feel like we were being forced to say goodbye, I don't know. But overtime, it just felt like there was a distance between me and my fave site. I was feeling more and more like there was something wrong going one and that I wasn't seeing it. Oh, but how right I was, wasn't I?

This site meant a lot to me, as being a place to laugh and forget my troubles. As a place to make me think and have fun. While it's still going down in flames, I still retain what the reviewers inspired me and what I loved about it. Not the screaming and ranting, but making jokes and quips about bad material. Just a place for entertainment and the like, and a place for fun.

For me, this was mainly a site to understand stuff I had never seen before and become an even bigger movie lover. It was a place where a bunch of geeks could make fun of movies and have a great time doing it. So to see it fall, is a little disheartening. However, I feel like while it fell, the reviewers it had introduced me too will never leave me.

And he is crowing more about his characters being able to defeat any canon character. So I put up the challenge of Lightning against Twivine


Hmmmm, so Mykan says that his characters can beat any cannon character? Any? Well then, here on this blog, we present to you all takers on this challenge. It's time for "Mykan's characters vs cannon fighters!!!!!" Ok, so it's mainly Lighting Dawn and count Logan. Jaden Mykan would lose to Atem so damn fast it would make his head spin, and copy cat is just a furry Robin recolor. So, lets begin!

Ok, so lets see what Mykan has up his sleeve in the latest blog. And...

He has written about what?

NO! NO! You are not talented for this! You should not be talking about this!!!!

Author vs audience: Or...Mykan is the most happiest person in the world!

You know, I love my fans. They make me so happy with their words and comments. And then you have Mykan, who I bet would go to a cone celebrating him just so he can insult his fanbase

So, Mykan has created two fics where it is not starfleet related or linked to his Friendship is failure series (And no, I will not be riffing those!) and in a twist, they aren't horrible. Oh, don't get me wrong, the pacing, grammar, and story telling is still below par, but it's passable. 

In true Mykan fasion, however, he is deleting comments and insulting people because of it? Why? Well, this little blog post is why.

You may have noticed all the comments are deleted on that fic. 

-Where they say horrible things like, good job man or nice fic. Those horrible horrible comments! Why can't they be mean to me?

-Not really, just curious as to why I am reading your blog when I could be surfing on the stars right now.

 it's because I deleted them, I don't like them and I don't want them.

 Spike feels bad that he doesn't have a gift for her, in the end he is told just how special he is just for what he is.

-Awww, how sweet. What kind of cruel heartless person would hate something like that...

...I hate that fic with a such a bloody vengeance. 

-Come on, you had to know I set myself up for this!

Even I down-voted it myself. 

-You can do that? Isn't voting on your own fic illegal?

*reads* Hmmm, seems it's ok as long as you don't do it repeatidelly.

I do not wish to be complimented on it or praised for it.

 I HATE IT!! I don't care of YOU like it, or YOU thought it was sweet... I HATE IT,

WHY DO I HATE THE FIC...

-Because you have a thing about happiness and despise it?

-Ah, see? Though, considering some of your other titan fics and the power ranger fics, one has to wonder.

-Twilight Sparkle gets happily married and a wonderful happy ever after (Which she does not deserve in my view because I hate her)

-Who needs thingslike the silent moments to help move the scene. It's not like this show is normally slice of life.

-Spike didn't die (Like I originally wanted him to. His sacrifice to save everyone would have been his wedding gift)

That fic is nothing but pure garbage to me.

WHY DID I MAKE THE FIC...

-Because you are an egnima wrapped in a conrudum served with a bit of hollidenaise sauce and baked with a light bacon dressing and garnished with a side of chocolate.

To scoff at my haters and prove them wrong. I CAN make fanfics they may like and won't bellyache as much about it,

-I really dont think anyone was doubting you could. Or that they cared. Or that they would bellyache about it. Hell, I know I don't, I just get snarky that you can't do it WELL!

 but I usually don't because I don't like them and I hate the ponies and prefer to stick to my Starfleet and Friendship is failure.

-So, why don't you? You seem to be comfortable there. 

As I said before, it doesn't matter if my audience is pleased or if it makes sense, captures interest or has potential... 

-Ah, and this is what we call selfish and horrible thinking from a person who is convinced he is the only person in the world

I don't like the fic, and I don't want them to like it either, praise me for it, or give me nice comments!

-Or give me cookies, or give me brownies, or do nice things for me. I hate it!!!!

 If they still like it... then perhaps I don't like them either.

-Are we sure there isn't  a psycosis for this that isn't retard, autistic, or anything else?

That's the way I want it to be: No praise for something I deem so disgraceful, and for violating my own rules so badly!

Rules that you set up for yourself because you want to be hated so much.

That is what this blog post is. It's that little whiner who is telling you to stop liking him so much. The guy who wants to wallow in self pity and hopes that everyone will leave him alone.

One thing that sometimes brings on my ideas to make fanfics is music, be they a soundtrack, a song,


-Surprisenly, I have no arguments here. There are sometimes I am listening to a great song or a cool beat and I think of how it matches a cool fight or a romantic moment. Hell, I love doing a musical number when I am playing my video games.


Though, this does give me time to think about how to properly do songs in fics. You might notice I tend to do that a little


“A LITTTLE!?”

Now, there is a right way and a wrong way to do it


Mykan tends to do it the wrong way by putting in the link right there in the middle of the page. This breaks the flow and momentum. Also, he tend to just say “They sang the song that I am labeling” or worse, claim that his copyrighted songs are his.





or even just a simple musical key note for a sound effect.


-The right way? Well, there is a group on fimfic called the Music of Ponyville that deals with an alternate reality where Cadence is the pony who hangs around and Celestia and Luna re the ones who go coca for cocca puffs. In this, we have a team of OCtavia, Flutters, Melody, Bluenote, Lyra, and Vinyl.


The author actually does a good job of introducing the song into the fic. How? By taking the time to describe the beats, the tone of voice, and the pace of the lyrics. By offering this, we get a better idea of how the song is supposed to sound like.


This is why songs are harder to do in comics than in a book. Comics are very much a visual medium, so description is not really a factor. We don’t need to know Superman’s Cape is red, because we can see it. I don’t need to describe the look on Batman’s face because we can see it.


However, this means we don’t know the type of music is going to be playing. IS it fast, or slow? Is the tone high or low? These things do not get a mention because we don’t need it in a comic.


After all, songs are supposed to reflect the emotions, or add to the dramatics, or even get a a quick point across






-All true, as anyone can tell you about music. It heightens the performance or gives something much more depth. Silence is also a key factor, as it allows us to appreciate the long moments.


Wow, a few paragraphs of agreeing. That is kind of nice. Maybe I won’t find too much to be enraged by in this.

(The entertainment bit is the smallest part of the pie)


-*Bangs head* Everytime I give him credit!


No, entertainment is the biggest and most important piece. If you are entertained by the song then the song loses all of it’s might. The emotions, the feels, and the power are lost because you can’t enoy the song.

I don't really listen to songs to be entertained, I do them to get ideas for fics,


-Ah, I see. So basically we are back to the “I hate joy, I hate love, I love money” part of Mykans diatribe. So please, tell us more oh rapmaster Mykie, why do you listen to songs?






and maybe use them to blow off steam as I picture scenes.


-Ah, I see...


Basically some of the most saddest excuses I have ever seen for listening to music in my life. We all have reasons for listening to music, but this is the equiviilant of the goth kid going “I only listen to music in order to calm my soul...”

The music as well as the battle in this next one is my absolute favorite!

and it's a battle like that. So incredbily ANGRY... so HATEFUL... and so deadly.


-Not really deadly as the rangers have no intention of killing Ransik. Ransik, on the other hand, is fighting out of despiration since everything he has worked for has now been taken away.


And then there's... (2:36)


-You mean the internal struggle of Jen and her desire to push herself to bring in a wanted criminal. Jen ready to stand up for all that she knows is right, the effort she will put into being a hero even at the cost of the future?

The battle seems to be a draw; everyone is hurt, the city in ruins with fires everywhere, and even the villain is weak and outraged.


-Oh... Please note, he skips out on how Ransik later redeems because his rage wasn’t really worth it.


It's perfect! I couldn't ask for a better battle inspiration anywhere!


-I can...




Whew... that felt good.


-You know, I worry when he writes stuff like this. Makes me worried about what he is doing while I am not looking.


Then there's chase music for those old getaway scenes... not like the james bond scenes,


-No, that would be decent.


but rather music that just makes me feel like running (When I go on my walks in the warm weather)

or when I want to picture someone being chased by people he wants to get away from...


-Well, not bad. I mean, as long as he doesn’t bring in Beas-It’s the next line isn’t it?


Like Beast Boy fleeing from the Titans not wanting to reconcile with them...


-Is there anyway possible that we can get through one of your long winded diatribes without being reminded that you have the biggest boner for Beast Boy?

-Or a burning hatred of Pinkie


-Or someone just running up the path or the fields with an angry expression.

Then there are just simple intros/outros alone that I find cool,


-See, you can actually talk for a few minutes like a rationa person.


and sometimes I imagine them like Twilight meet crossover characters in the fic and she wonders... "Who are you?" and if she asks other stuff like what kind of heroes they are, or what enemies those were, or even what they are like... these intros are like calling cards.


-That we would normally here in our heads as badass letimotifs and...we are going in for another ride!

(Absolute favorite) I picture him sitting in a dark crystal-cavern, just sitting there with a hopeless expression on his face, but at least no one can hurt or betray him anymore.


-I also imagine him living the life with his best friends. But, what can I say? I know how to write people in character.

-Yeah, because calliope music is so what I imagine dispair to sound like.





-He just used seasame street in a link about depression in a non comical manner...people, I don’t think he needs psychological help anymore. I think he needs a lobotomy.

-Why do I have a feeling the songs he picks will in no way represent the feelings he is arguing for.


In addition to that, I image he's leaving his new friends to continue on his journey, or rejecting offers of reconciliation from former friends he had left and leaving them.

I like this one (0:47) he ultimately refuses the Titans offer to work things out, hands in his communicator and walks off leaving the other to stare grimly until he is out of sight.





-You are using music to demonstrate the breaking of a fellowship where two friends are wiching each other luck? Ok, it’s offical, you are as blind as the fake equestrians are.


(This one, he's all alone and looking at sights that are most familiar to him, giving him strange feelings)





-Yeah, puberty will do that to ya.

Love this one: (It's the end of another day, and he wonders where his travels will take him next, but he does feel a little lonely. Nevertheless, he must keep on running, until he finds the peace and happiness he desires)





-An ending he will sadly never have. And this is while everyone else is partying it up back at the homestead.

-Wow, what a miserable existancee. Glad the Beast Boy I know and love doesn’t deal with this!


And I also have a rule for the fantasy world (that I try to follow as much as I can and enforce on my story world):


-So what is the difference between your fantasy world and story world? Or are we talking to the people inside of your head again Mykan






Only certain people are allowed to hear, sing or use certain songs.


-...? Really? No one can feel different emotions or hide their true emotions throgugh song?


(I'll use Beast Boy for this example.)


-Please don’t I beg you.


If he was happy and cheerful, even romantic, he would sing a song like this...








-Of wich, I have a feeling this song was taken completely out of context.





But then when I usually make him dark, upset and alone, he would sing this...








-So, 99% of the time then?


Now, you have to DROP the entertainment bit here. This is where my DO/DON'T come in.


-Oh god here we go again! Where’s my headset?


A happy person isn't allowed to listen to the 2nd song: They are not dark and depressed or angry, they have no reason to sing this song, listen to it, or even acknowledge its existence.


-Except for when said happy person feels bad or upset. You know people feel different emotions at different times in spite of theru usual personality right?

The same thing applies to the Dark person: They would not sing the 1st song, because they are not happy, and Noooooooo...


-Yeah they would. Just for funsies or to show inner depths to their character.


they do not get the song to TRY and become happy or give things a chance.


-Why not?


Be you Light or Dark... you stay on your respective side of the wall.


-Racist!


Whatever is on the other side of the wall, you're not to touch it or even go near it! (No defecting)


-Eff you I walk on the grey side of things!

Some songs are hard to do cuz they start dark and turn light, or start light but turn dark.


-Wow, it’s almost like different ongs can have different meanings and that the world isn’t as black and white as you pretend it to be.


I'd say this one's more DARK than light... yet it's used over a happy moment.





-You know I look at the above image and all I can think of is...Beast Boy would never wear a tux that looked like that!

Keep in mind, I said I try to follow the rules as best I can... sometimes I just can't due to the problems of the songs or circumstances.


-That and I am a big hypocrite, there is always that.





Well that's the basic ideal,


-Rule the world.


and that's what I use music for: not solely for entertainment, but to gain ideas for stories, and to blow off steam


-And to insult the art form as we know it.

(They are used for anger and comfort, like war weapons)


-And every hippie screamed at this idea.


And that's why I should be careful when trying new things: it might give me more inspiration or piss me off to want to make more fics and vids.


-Yes, because no one wants you to be inspired to make more crap!


I don't care if people say "Can't you just enjoy the song for the entertainment bit" or like that, because answer is already "No"

If I had to stop making fics period, not only will I disallow music (And this is my rule for my own reality) I will disallow anything associated with it in my life.

-Sounds like a lot of effort just to control your temper tantrum.


...Reason: I refuse to use music for entertainment or to appreciate the art of it that way. I use it for as I said (Inspiration, or anger/comfort) nothing else. Having music and entertainment in my life would only give me more ideas and a desire to write more, but if I can't make fics anymore... then they are out! That is the penalty.
